Megan Carty is a Boston area contemporary abstract artist exploring themes of triumph over hardship. Her paintings feature flowers, animals and birds purposely left unfinished as a metaphor for the ever-evolving and improving human condition. We are alway "in progress." ARTIST STATEMENT

“The Uncaged” is a collection of original contemporary abstract paintings featuring realistic bird renderings to illustrate the concept of the “un-caging” of women. They may be oppressed or abused for part of their lives; later to break free to go on and flourish— to be their authentic selves.They are full of personality and color…truly unique. I think about how women couldn’t even have their own lines of credit until the mid-seventies...I realize so many must have felt trapped as they stuffed themselves into a figurative box to please a spouse or others. These works are a tribute to those powerful inner spirits and personalities that won’t be caged again!

My birds represent un-caged women embracing their inner strength, sparkle, and authenticity. The crown symbols represent the fact we are all perfectly made…no matter what we were told or how we may feel. There is life after abuse, oppression and neglect...we are all rare birds finding our colors.
