Abstract Paintings

When we surround ourselves in the great outdoors, we absorb the beauty of the unique sights and sounds that allow us to be present in the moment. Their impressions, though blurry in our memories, stay with us long after our return to our familiar homes. My abstract landscape paintings aim to bring the soothing, healing energy of these special places to the viewer through rich and vibrant colors, pooled together abstractly and blended together in unique and dynamic ways.

Growing up in Maine afforded me a rich environment of mountains, fields, lakes and ocean from which to explore and draw inspiration. These beautiful vistas have become impressions of color and light in my brain, creating a mood and feeling that I want to translate into fine art and share with you, the viewer. It’s never about representing a scene exactly as I saw it. As I strip away the excess, what is left is the very essence of a place in time, a jewel for your wall, that can be reflected upon and enjoyed over and over again.

“That Time on the Patio” is a chic 8x10 inch acrylic abstract painting in pastel tones (with pencil and gold metallic paint in the layering) on watercolor paper.

The piece is signed on the front and on the back. This piece comes unframed. (Framing is recommended).

My latest abstract pieces explore what it feels like inside my brain while living and coping with depression and anxiety. It isn’t always just black and bleak. It is complicated and full of color, confusion, decay, growth, and beauty. There is optimism, light, and energy. There is fear, desperation and stress. There is dismay, chatter, loneliness and overwhelm and it ALL exists together in the beauty of life.

I create a tangle of color, shape and line to convey this confusion of life and decay to the viewer in a relatable way. Surprisingly, the end result is something I hope to be “pretty” and interesting to look at. To be relatable and delightful despite having a morbid undercurrent. Like it has a hidden secret there in plain view…a secret shared between artist and viewer. What we see on the surface isn’t always the end of the story; it’s just the very beginning.
